Common Babbler, Jim CorbettThere is an exceptional variety of bird life, both local and migrant species. A rich mix of forest, riverine and mountain species are sighted here all year round though winter months are especially good for migratory birds.

Brown Dipper, Wallcreeper, several species of Forktails (the Spotted and Little Forktail being the most common), Plumbous and White-capped Water Redstarts and several species of Wagtails are the altitude migrants you can see. The rich river habitat attracts Pallas' and the Lesser Grey-headed fish eagle at dusk. The Brown Fish Owl is more heard than seen.

Walks in the forest would reveal the vocal White throated and White-crested laughing thrush and the beautiful but aggressive Common Green Magpie. The Upper canopy should be scanned for the colourful Long-tailed Broadbill and Maroon Orioles, here one also comes across hunting parties of Blue winged minla, Black Throated Tit, Grey headed canary flycatcher, Chestnut bellied nuthatch and scarlet minivets

Plain backed and the much sought after Scaly thrush prefer to forage under Clerodendron undergrowth with dense Sal\Tree canopy here one also comes across Khaleej pheasants. Oriental and Great Pied hornbills are seen as they fly over their typical valley to valley flying pattern.

Corbett national park is a birdwatcher's paradise. The park, with its rich Biogeographic diversity, is home to more than 600 species of birds - about Half of the total species found in the entire indian subcontinent! It is Considered one of the true bird parks of the world. Raptors are of infinite Variety and occasionally species of hawks and eagles appear. You can see Eagles, vultures, buzzards, parakeets, owls, orioles, drongos, thrushes, Babblers, bulbuls, cuckoos, doves, bee eaters, rollers, flycatch


Nature walk


The wildlife resort in Corbett also arranges a guided nature walk by naturalists who lay open for you the natural wonders of the earth. Walking by the river Kosi and the healing herbs, you come to explore the richness of the forests. Nature walks in Corbett is definitely the best nature walks in Uttarakhand as well as in India.

The guided nature walks takes you along the river bed of the Kosi River and through beautiful Sal forests. Along the trail one crosses a suspension bridge over the Kosi river, built during the British times. The trail also takes one to the ancient temple of Garjia. This temple named after the deity Garjia Devi, is built on a huge rock in the midst of river Kosi. The temple dedicated to Goddess Sherawali is visited by thousands of devotees from different parts of the state. A large fair is held here on Kartik Poornima.

A trained naturalist who accompanies you on the nature walk will give you information on the local flora and fauna and the culture and traditions of the area.
